A More Personal Side of I Am Audi

Apr 28

This morning I was looking at my Webtrends Analytics and saw that in the last 28 days there have been just over 20,000 visitors to I Am Audi. You have no idea how incredible it has been building the site and watching the visitors and page views climb. It’s not the number that keeps me going, but the relationship that I am building with each and every person that follows the site. So it is with this in mind that I wanted to share a more personal side of I Am Audi.

As many of you know I have been with Audi for a very long time. This has been part of the driving force behind what I am doing with the website, in that, I am trying to build a more personal connection with people. I have held many positions within the company and most recently was offered the position of Director of Brand Development for Sunset Porsche Audi, obviously here in Portland. You can imagine my excitement when the General Manager suggested that he create this position for me, because it was ultimately my dream position. Share my passion for the brand with everyone else and develop some of that same enthusiasm within my team – it was perfect. I was making a difference. Sales were up, clients were happy and I was spreading the Audi word!

I am no longer with Sunset Porsche Audi. But my love for the brand is stronger than ever and I will be sure to keep you all posted with my new ventures. At the end of the day I Am Audi has solidified what I have known all along and that is that you have to stand for something – even if it means taking the road less traveled.

Thank you all for your continued support.

So you had your dream position and then you were no longer with the company. What happened?

iamaudi rules and you are a pioneer among many fossilized automative dealers… keep up the good work my friend, you will go far!

If you had your dream position, why did you leave?

From Garrett on April 28th, 2010

“If you had your dream position, why did you leave?”

People are asking why I left when I had my dream job – a great question. In short I was asked to choose between my dream job and following my dreams, and of course my dreams win.

Scott, I heard this from Sunset when I called to talk to you. I wish you the best man. Please keep me posted of you new adventures. You know I always enjoyed talking to you.
Take care

What is the dream you’re following?

From T.Martin on April 29th, 2010

Let’s be honest. They choked him out because they operate in a world that is 10 years old and Scott is trying to force the industry 10 years into the future.

The car industry and the real estate industry (amongst others) are struggling with Social Media and modern web in a major way. They hate letting go of control. Buying and selling cars has been a “rinse and repeat” process for decades. Now people are sick and tired of having to walk onto a lot and have a bunch of strangers try and talk them into “leather.” Seriously, the buying process sucks so bad. You always feel dirty and taken advantage of. Social Media stands for transparency and the voodoo that is the sales process is far from transparent.

Sunset is scared and I can’t blame them. However innovation is passing them by and their reputation is a direct reflection of this. I have yet to hear a good thing about that dealer amongst my peers. And my peers are their demographic.

It’s like not allowing people to sign your yearbook because you are afraid they might say something bad. But, if you are an asshole then you deserve it.

From Mr. Diggles on April 29th, 2010

T. Martin,
From a work standpoint – I want to create something that helps the company I am with grow and changes the industry in a positive way. So I created I Am Audi and in the end was asked to choose between I Am Audi or staying with the company, I chose I Am Audi.

From Scott Mitchell on April 29th, 2010

Scott,

how long were you with Audi? Good luck!

From Frau Tillmann on April 29th, 2010

Frau,
I have been with Audi exclusively for 5 years and Audi Volkswagen for 7 years.

From Scott Mitchell on April 29th, 2010

Scott,

While it is sad to hear that you were forced to make the decision between a dream job and a dream. It seems that instead of having an A-HA! moment, it sounds like they had a bah-humbug moment.

I want to say that this site has been a great resource to all things Audi and I wish you the best in your ventures.

All I can say is that I am four months away from the dream of owning an S model (2011 S5) and it was with the help of various online resources that I was able to decide what I wanted.

From questionlp on April 29th, 2010

Scott,
Dean from Futrell, Dan at Sunset was comical enough to drive and tell me you did not have a cell phone. Give me a call when you have a minute, I’d like to know what your plans are.

I used to work a block from Sunset and took my ’01 S4 Avant there once – and only once – then went to Dean’s for service after that. ‘Nuff said. Love your site and good luck with your future!

Thank you all.

1. Performance

Every part in the machine counts.

With our vehicles being developed from the ground up around the world famous & award winning Quattro All-wheel drive, it is no wonder we are the leader in performance.

With countless victories and developments in Le Mans, Rally racing, Pikes Peak, and touring car championships, we build the most competitive All-wheel drive cars in the world. If you are looking for that unfair advantage, welcome to Audi, you have found it.

2. Safety

Why die, when you can live?

Brought to you by the company that pioneered safety standards and crash testing almost 100 years ago, with Audi there is no compromise in safety.

Available with technical advancements such as side guard head protection, Side Assist, adaptive headlights, three point safety belts and many other award winning safety systems as well as L.E.D lighting.

3. Design

Everyone wants to look good right?

Bold dynamic lines with moving surfaces, coupe like design and an aggressive stance on the road whether moving or standing still.

Audi has set itself apart from the rest of the industry with driver oriented cockpits and the leader of interior craftsmanship, materials and fit and finish. Keep in mind our extensive use of aluminum, space frame technology and low center of gravity give you that true Audi experience inside and out.

4. Versatility

Sometimes abundance is not enough.

If you want it, Audi has it. And if you have heard of it, it is most likely an option. Audi builds the most versatile cars in the world. Four door sedan or sport back, Coupe or Sport utility vehicle, big or small, front wheel drive or Quattro, gas fuel or diesel - and you still have to pick a color.

We build vehicles that will truly win races and pick up the groceries on the way home. If you let an Audi tell you it's story, it will never disappoint or disconnect you from the experience.

5. Value

Yes, fair value exchange does exist.

Whether you go with a new Audi and get a 4-year 50k mile warranty, or the certified pre-owned Audi with the most comprehensive 300 + point inspection and up to 6 years, 100k miles, you will not only get the best car on the market,
you will gain piece of mind!

And really, you can't put a price on that.
