Audi iPod Adapter

Dec 12

The most common accessory requested in the Audi parts department is the adapter for interfacing an iPod with your Audi. With the season of Audi upon us and such high demand for the iPod adapter, we have decided to have a promotion. Sunset Imports parts department is #1 in the area, #1 in the Western Region and currently is #2 in the country for parts sales. Sunset Imports has such a strong record due to the lasting relationships we build with our clients and such competitive pricing. This genuine Audi part works great through your stereo and can be controlled through the switches on your steering wheel. The adapter takes about an hour to install and is conveniently tucked away in your glove box were it can be securely connected to your iPod. For more details on this iPod adapter promotion see Audi Parts Promotions or call Sunset Imports Parts Department directly (503) 641-8600 and let them know you saw it at iamaudi.com

Picture Description
When you open your iPod it should come with four bags plus a “How To Operate” manual.
Picture Description
The four bags will look like this.
Picture Description
This is an example of what the part number will look like. Remember not all part numbers will be the same; they will vary depending on application.
Picture Description
This is what the iPod interface cable will look like. Depending on how the cable is installed and on what model of Audi, this cable will either come out in the glove box or center console.
Picture Description
When you have the iPod next to the cable you see how the symbol on the cable clearly distinguishes it for an iPod device. (Sorry iPod not included)
Picture Description
When you have the two mated the music will play in the vehicle like a compact disk. The iPod will rest in the glove box and you will be able to change songs as if you were changing tracks on a compact disk play.

    Hi Scott

Thanks for a great post. I have an 2009 A4 without AMI and want to connect up my ipod.

Does this kit (or similar) give you everything that you need to connect an ipod to a Gen 4 symphony? or is there something else that I need to buy to do allow me do this?

What is in each of the 4 bags?

    cheers

Does this work with RNS-E ? I have a 2005.5 A4 with Nav and I was told that the Audi Ipod will delete my CD player.
    Is it true?

    Hi,

I have just traded in an Audi A3 (2003) and removed the ipod adaptor illustrated within this post.

However; when I removed the adaptor I could not remove the cable that connected the black box to the back of the Audi Concert Radio (the wires were conected into multiple plugs on the back of the radio).

From your diagrams; I think I need the cable with the blue connector on the end. Do you have any idea where I can get one of these cables and how much it would be?

    Thanks In Advance

I want to sell the item; but need the cable to be able to sell it as a complete set.

Hi. Great website. I’m looking at a used RS4 that has the glovebox CD changer but does not have the (far more useful) iPod adapter. How easy/expensive is it to retrofit an adapter to the RS4?

    Thanks.

Hi, I have a 2005 A6 with XM and CD changer in the glove box. Will this work with my car?

  • http://www.iamaudi.com Scott Mitchell

No, you must have the Audi Music Interface, it will not work with your 6 disk changer.

    I have a 2007 Q7 4.2 manufactured before November 2006. How can I interface my iPhone 3G to my Q7?

Thanks for the info. I am in a unique situation with my 2007 Audi S4. I have a 2007 with MMI and no AMI. I have the disc changer in the glove box. What Ipod cable do I need and will I get my Iphone menus in my mmi display?

I have an 2005, A4, WITH the iPOD adaptor in the glove box. My question is if this adaptor will allow a pass through of the audio … in other words I want to use my Zune and can use the Zune controls. There are a few “universal” iPOD adaptor cables that will take the iPod and power a USB and additionally have an audio in mapped from the iPod cable (to a standard audio in). The Zune can thus get power from the USB and I could plug the audio out into the audio in.

This will work if the Audi iPOD adaptor isn’t looking for signals on all the wires, simply responds to the audio in … wire and the USB power wire…

    Any clue?

    Thanks.

    Stan

I too have a 2005.5 A4 with the RNS-E nav system and a 6 disc CD changer in the glove box, will this, or something like it work with my setup? My iPod has Bluetooth, will the bluetooth adapter work? Of the the available options, what is the recommended method of connection?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Hi all! I think this may be the place for me to find out where AND what to get for me to stream MP3s and Pandora from my iPhone 3G to the MMI system in my 2007 A6 w/Bose, Nav, Sirius & CD Changer. Is there something out there? I saw a post on another message board where the poster wired the factory cradle (inside the arm rest) to an apple cradle though he only had pictures – no wiring diagrams. Thanks in advance to any and all comments/suggestions!

Sorry, I also meant just even installing the iphone adapter too before the bluetooth.

  • http://Website Jeff

Hey all. It doesn’t look like my last post made it and if this becomes a duplicate my apologies. My question is very similar to Pete’s above. It isn’t completely clear whether an additional AMI is required for an existing MMI/Nav/CD/Sirius system like I have in my A6 today in order to use the iPhone adapter or bluetooth adapter. Is the AMI the first step to any of this to use the adapters?

  • http://Website Charl

Will this AMI work with an iphone?

  • http://www.iamaudi.com Scott Mitchell

    Carl,
Yest this will work with the iPhone.

Please help i have tried looking online and have not been able to find a solution anywhere. its 2011 there has to be a way to change this by now!! Thanks

Hi,Seems like it’s a nice blog. So let us also add something useful in
it. Trading in volatile market can be very fruitful also if we follow
technical levels closely. It’s a common saying that stock market can change fortune in either way. But now the question is how to
earn money from the Indian stock market.
Traders are advised to strictly follow technical analyses and
investors can follow fundamental analysis. Many analysts say it’s
not wise to follow technical and fundamental analysis together.
But we say what the problem is if one does so? As more
knowledge will add up things will not have any negative impact.

Just picked up a spanking A1 1.6 Tdi S-Line. Silly question, but in my new stuff demo at the showroom, the connection was great. Music played from iPhone. Now appears to be playing, but no sound. Any thoughts?
Radio/Phone both work, just not itunes. Did an hour ago.
    What have i done/not done?
    Cheers…

The thing that sucks about the oem ipod adapter is that it wont display the song title.  I pretty much had to keep it on shuffle.  In order to select a specific song without guessing what the track # might be is to unplug the ipod, search the song, and reattach.  Which is not good while driving.

It seems that this adapter will fit perfectly to my Audi iPod. Now I will be having more fun with my ipod during long journeys.

If you get this think then you will have to disconect you cd changer, Your changer should have a slot where you can plug in a ipod cable which u can buy from the dealer for 40 dollars.
