Audi R8 Goes Topless!

For everyone that wishes they had a convertible as these sunshine filled days are upon us – Audi offers you the best of the best! The R8 on its own is a sight to behold, but add a convertible to the mix and you really do have it all! Check out some info on the 2011 A8 as well as the new convertible coming your way!

Audi R8 Spyder

The new A8 luxury four-door sedan is more aggressive and much larger than the previous version. Longer (5,137 millimetres) and wider (1,949 mm) than its immediate competition, the new A8 is lower for a more sporting silhouette.

That attitude is backed up with performance. Not only is the A8′s latest aluminum space frame torsionally stiffer than before, it’s also lighter. Factor in the increased output from the 372-horsepower 4.2-litre FSI V8 and the all-wheel-drive A8 scampers to 100 kilometres an hour in just 5.7 seconds.

To go along with that performance are a number of luxury and functional touches. A camera-based system allows the A8 to auto-dim its LED headlights. The automatic climate control system has four separate climate zones and the 12-way-adjustable front seats can be exchanged for a pair of 22-way seats that are ventilated as well as heated and can be had with a pneumatic massager.

The A8′s audio system is a 1,400-watt Bang & Olufsen stereo with 19 speakers.

AUDI R8 SPYDER 5.2 FSI QUATTRO

The V10 engine produces 525 horsepower and launches the open-top two-seater to 100 kilometres an hour in 4.1 seconds on its way to a top speed of 313 km/h. Featuring technologies such as the Audi Space Frame (ASF), quattro permanent all-wheel drive, full-LED headlights and with an innovative seat belt microphone available as an option, the R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro is the new top-of-the-range Audi.

The two-seater has a cloth top weighing just 30 kilograms, which keeps the car’s weight and centre of gravity low. The soft top opens and closes automatically in just 19 seconds and can operate at speeds up to 50 km/h.

The car also features the aluminum Audi Space Frame, giving it a weight of just 1,720 kg with the standard six-speed manual transmission. The Spyder is also available with an optional six-speed automatic transmission.

The R8 Spyder features plenty of safety items to keep all that fun under control, including rollover protection in the bulkhead, air bags in front and head and thorax side air bags in the backrests.
