Audi A1 Quattro, aka: “Supermini”

Though we didn’t think it was possible to love the Audi A1 more – today we find renewed love in the vehicle we will certainly never see and yet another installment in a growing series of things we write that showcase our love for this small but mighty member of the Audi family! Realizing this isn’t exactly new, but no less exciting, 333 of the Audi A1 Supermini will be set for release mid-2012.

These 252 horse power super charged power houses will of course only be available to our friends in Europe and the cost has yet to be determined, but these are some slick looking vehicles which will all be produced in Glacier white metallic and will be sporting Quattro as well. Audi is hoping to stake its claim in building “the most powerful and fastest accelerating car of its kind ever created” and we agree they are well on their way to making this a reality! Although, we are pretty sad we won’t get to reap any of these benefits without relocating somewhere is Europe!! Check out this great article with some more detailed points and enjoy your day!

Another Non-US Audi A1 – Hint, Hint Audi We Want it!

We know it may seem slightly repetitive to keep talking about the Audi A1 – but we just can’t help how much we love this vehicle! So much in fact, that when there is any new news about it, we feel obligated to spread the word! So that is just what we are going to do. Not that it will likely make any difference to any of us seeing this little machine in the US, but at least it is still ok to live vicariously through others. This time, those others happen to be the lucky folks in Tokyo who had the opportunity to catch the unveiling of the A1 Sportback at the Tokyo Auto Show. It is expected to be available in early 2012 in Europe, of course, and is aimed at the “young, urban public.” Not that we would expect anything less from Audi – but it is a very cool and sporty – and though we may not speak for everyone, but with no plans to be released in the US, we are a bit sad about this. The production of the A1 in Brussels – leaves traces.” Now that translation may not be perfect but we get the idea. We love the principle and creativity of the street art, now we just wish we could get the Audi A1 State side!

100,000th Audi A1 Rolls off the Assembly Line

2 things 100,000 Audi A1′s already, wow that was quick! Second thank you Fourtitude for this article. AUDI AG has been producing the Audi A1 in Brussels for nearly one year. The 100,000th car has now rolled off the assembly line. To mark the occasion, King Albert II of Belgium visited the site in the Forest district of Brussels. Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, and Gerhard Schneider, General Director for Technology and Logistics and management spokesman of Audi Brussels, led the King through the tradition-steeped plant, which Audi acquired and restructured four years ago. In addition, Benoît Cerexhe, Minister of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region, responsible for the Economy, Employment, Scientific Research and Foreign Trade, officially opened the visitor’s route through the A1 production facility.

“We are very honored that the King of Belgium has taken such a great interest in Audi and that he has visited our plant,” says Rupert Stadler. “The Forest site has been part of the Audi family – and the Company’s success story – for four years now. With the Audi A1, Audi Brussels is making a major contribution to the dynamic growth of our brand.” Take the jump read on!

Our friends over at Club Audisport Iberica have been kind enough to send us these amazing photos of this Audi A1 – in nature – and we couldn’t be more thrilled with them! Not only is the vehicle itself fantastic, but the back drop is really unbelievable. We are unable to get the A1 in the US at this time, so we’ll have to let these exclusive pictures hold us over until we are able to get the car here – or until we can travel to these other beautiful parts of the world and see them for ourselves.

“This Audi A1 is painted in Phantom Black with Ice Silver Metallic roof contrast line and has a set of 17″ x 7.5J ’5-arm’ design bi-colour alloy wheels. This A1 is fitted with the 1.6 TDI 105 HP engine with a 5 gear manual transmission. It gets an average of 6 liters / 100 km in the city with the start/stop system, and on the highway driving carefully it’s consumption is only 4,5 liters / 100 km.”

“The Audi dealer Superwagen wanted us to test the car in all situations possible, so we decided to drive 1000 km in two days from ’92 olympic city of Barcelona to Zaragoza and go back. We had a great surprise when we left the highway and drove until Mequinenza (See Map) using secondary roads. In that moment we realized how funny and agile is the A1 with that VERY direct direction and sporty suspension. Despite we were not using the most powerful A1 engine, it was very easy to overtake other cars and leave behind curves and more curves without feeling tired of driving. It makes you forget you’re driving a car designed to the city. Two front seats have nothing to envy to the A3 ones.”

Audi RS1 Born from the A1 Clubsport!

By now, hoards of Audi fans at the annual Wörthersee tour festival have feasted their eyes on the Audi A1 Clubsport Quatrro. And to prove that the concept was far more than a just a simple nip and tuck project, Audi and its partner Need for Speed produced a video that demonstrates the extensive work put into the A1 Clubsport.

The project, dubbed W11, starts with a basic A1 that is mercilessly hacked to give way to a carbon fiber room and wider fenders. The donor A1 then gets stuffed with the 2.5-liter inline-five TFSI engine found in the TT RS and RS3 ; the engine is tuned to put out 496 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque. Audi claims that the combination of the tiny car with the monster engine results in a 0-62 mph time of just 3.7 seconds.

A custom paint job completes the W11 project along with carbon-ceramic brakes, 19-inch wheels, roll cage, carbon-fiber bucket seats and requisite race gauges. Audi has no plans to produce the pint-sized, all-wheel drive track thrasher, but could some elements of Clubsport spill over to street version of the A1? It’s possible and we will eagerly wait and see.

Motor Ward says “The cute little Audi A1 gets a fresh set of wheels from Pogea Rcing . These are 18-inch OZ Racing Alleggerita HLT wheels wrapped in Continental ET35 Sport Contact 3 tires. They look good inside the fenders thanks to the KW coilover suspension kit that lowers the car. You might also catch a glimpse of the Brembo braking package inside the rims. That’s a nice touch.” Pogea racing really stands behind its tag line, “Are values are what make us tick.” and we love what they have done with the Audi A1!

Audi A1 Being Unbuilt?

I am sitting on our balcony overlooking the park and watching cars pass by below, noticing a lot of trucks and large cars. As well, there is practically no available parking on the side streets as it is full of larger cars. Now I don’t think we all need to be driving smaller, more efficient vehicles, but it does make sense for most of us. This video of an Audi A1 being slowly dismantled made me a little sad – we can’t get the A1 in the United States and others are already taking them apart. My only hope is that this A1 is being stripped for a good cause; some sort of research and development or upcoming racing series. I suppose I will have to wait and see…

The A1′s Big Day!

Today is the official launch day of Audi ‘s much anticipated A1. The new Audi goes on sale today in Germany and its pricing structure has been released. The A1 is priced along-side it’s main rival, the BMW Mini. Check out the pricing details below and see what we are all missing out on in the US!

The long awaited Audi A1 super mini is now launched in Germany and will soon hit the other European markets. Audi has big plans for this little car, by the end of 2010 there will be 50,000 units of A1 out and they expect average production volumes of 100,000 A1 units per year. The starting price for this model is €15,800 (£13,145 in UK) and it goes up to around €23,000 for the top of the range model. That is not cheap, but they’ve priced it like the Mini, its main rival.

“Reports from our international dealers show us that interest in the A1 is exceeding our expectations considerably,” commented Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG. “We will therefore increase our production capacity by 20 percent.”

The Audi A1 will be launched with three appealing engine options: the 1.2 TFSI, the 1.4 TFSI and the 1.6 TDI. Each engine features direct injection, turbocharging and a start-stop system with braking energy recovery. The A1 is the only car in its segment to combine a start-stop system with an automatic transmission.

The Audi A1 Goes Everywhere… Except The US!

Well as far as I am concerned the answer here is simple – Yes, the Audi A1 should come to the US. In response to its appeal all over the world, Audi is ramping up its production of the new hatchback and accommodating for the jump it plans to see in sales from this new addition to the Audi lineup.

The new Audi is fetching all sorts of popularity and will be available in Europe on August 27 of this year and then throughout many other countries in the next year. Even China will see the A1 possibly in 2011, but the US will never see this version and it is uncertain if the A1 will ever be available here. I am a huge fan of this sporty machine and will continue to hold out that one day Audi may come around on their decision to leave us out!

Initially, Audi planned on keeping its new A1 compact a European exclusive. However, after unexpected interest around the world, the company’s diminutive hatchback will now go global, but unfortunately there are no plans to bring it to the U.S.
The news of the Audi A1 sales expansion comes from Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi’s head of marketing and sales. Schwarzenbauer told Bloomberg that A1 sales will be expanded to global markets in 2011, with the exception of the U.S. and China. He added that the compact hatchback will be introduced in China sometime after 2011, but won’t make it to the U.S. until its second generation, “at the earliest.”

In order to cope with the increased markets, Audi is ramping up production of the A1. According to Schwarzenbauer, Audi is increasing A1 production at its Brussels, Belgium, assembly plant by 20 percent. This will bring total A1 production to at least 120,000 units annually, as Audi initially pledged to build 100,000 A1s per year.

Audi introduced the A1 as part of its plan to grow and dethrone BMW as the world’s largest luxury carmaker by 2015, and parent Volkswagen aims to become the largest carmaker in the world by 2018.

The A1 goes on sale in Europe on August 27, and sales will be expanded to other markets around the world later in 2011. It starts at €15,800 ($19,900) in Germany.
