Complementing Colors – Audi A5

Feb 2

After the A7 was released with the Sahara Silver Metalic exterior color and light beige interior, I became a fan of this combination. No more then a week later this A5 comes in with a very similar color combination, and it looks great. When seeing the Sahara Silver Metalic A5 next to the Dakar Beige A4 I can not decide what color appeals to me more. All I know is they both look great.

This is a great color on an incredibly beautiful car. I live in Dallas, Texas and plan to order one in September of this year as a 2010 model. However, I’m torn between the Sahara Silver and the Quartz Gray. I’m torn only because of the inability to pair the Sahara Silver with the Light Gray interior. The first and only time I saw this car in Sahara Silver was late last summer at dusk at a stop light. It was stunning – especially with the 19″ Y-design wheels. However, black seems to be the most popular color choice in Dallas for the A5 and S5 – no surprise there as black is beautiful, too. The Linen Beige leather is nice but I don’t really care so much for the color of the dash, the steering wheel, and the door/side-wall surrounds. In different lighting situations those elements appear almost like an unpleasant brown – in my opinion. Not too crazy about the Almond Beige wood inlays either, but it could grow on me the more I see it. We’ll see.

I really like interiors that feel bright and open. And for me, that is most achieved with the Light Gray Interior offering and therefore Quartz Gray being my second exterior color choice. There is someone nearby in my neighborhood that already has this car in Quartz Gray. My wife and I even considered this car in Deep Sea Blue with Light Gray interior but I think the lighter exterior colors (notably the silvers and grays) communicate this car’s lines and surfaces best. Hopefully, the 2010 model year will be more flexible with exterior and interior color pairings.

Thanks for posting the images and commentary on the A5. Glad I found your site! It’s been helpful in the frustrating mental debate of color choices. Decisions, decisions, eh?
