This morning Mercedes Benz posted on their Facebook page a video titled “Racing to Breakfast in the new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe”, were they show a new C63 Coupe racing a Ducati to breakfast at the beach-house. Mercedes wrote on their Facebook page “Simply because Mercedes-AMG is the Official Car Partner of Ducati’s MotoGP racing team doesn’t mean we can’t engage in a little healthy competition. Watch the new 2012 C63 AMG Coupe and the Ducati 848 EVO superbike jockey for position at the breakfast table.”
The short clip was well done from every point of view, it has some beautiful driving shots and great music but oddly left me wanting a Ducati not a new C63 Coupe. Is that an advertising backfire or is it a success, can you advertise using props that attract more attention then the product being sold? The answer in my opinion is yes, it is a good tactic that should be used more often by other companies but makes me wonder just how Audi would do it?
