First off I have to thank quattroholic for this write up and the pictures. It was exciting to find that they had put this up – I just had to pass it on. And now an addition for every quattroholic’s wish list, (and I Am Audi’s! ). An original Audi 200 quattro Trans Am race car has been listed for sale by The Auto Collections of Las Vegas. To add some extra provenance to this particular car, this is the 1988 Trans Am championship-winning car driven by the great Hurley Haywood. Hurley racked up an amazing 8 wins and the manufacturer’s title for Audi in this 510 horsepower beast.
“1989 AUDI 200 QUATTRO TRANS AM RACE CAR ID# 44JA000013 – THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM AUDI SPORT IN INGOLSTADT, GERMANY. THE CAR WAS BUILT FOR THE SPORTS CAR CLUB OF AMERICA (SCCA) TRANS AM CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS IS THE VEHICLE THAT WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP, DRIVEN BY HURLEY HAYWOOD.”
Price is not listed, so we’re guessing this falls in the “if you have to ask you can’t afford it” category. And finally, since we’re feeling reminiscent. Check out the video below for the full story of Audi’s road racing domination of the late 80’s and early 90’s. Listen to those wastegates chirp!
