Everyday I learn something new and today I learned something from a loyal reader of www.iamaudi.com . I will leave the reader anonymous but will thank him greatly for his input and diligent research on this much discussed topic. With such a great response from the original topic of the Bluetooth adapter and the 2G MMI the question has been “Will the Bluetooth adapter work with the 3G MMI?” Read the E-Mail I received and find out! Thank you again for your much appreciated response.
“I used my iPhone 3GS as a media source.”
“You are 100% correct in that it doesn’t work with the 3G MMI system. When you plug it in and navigate through the MMI to “Media” then “Source” it simply reads “not recognized” beside AMI on the MMI screen. The iPhone recognized the Bluetooth adapter and paired with it, but the adapter was not compatible with the 3G system.”
“It worked quite nicely with the 2G MMI system in a Q7 that we tried afterward. There was just a slight delay of a second or two for the information to transfer via Bluetooth, but sound quality was good. You could also listen to other audio sources from the iPhone such as video or YouTube. I’ve read reports from other users that even Bluetooth compatible portable GPS units will transfer audio to the AMI Bluetooth adapter.”
“Having tried it now, I think if it had worked in the Q5 I would have decided against it. Directly plugging the iPod (or iPhone) into the AMI gives you all of your song and playlist information, as well as control of the iPod via the MMI controls in the centre console and via the steering wheel. The Bluetooth adapter didn’t offer any of these features. It had very limited controls via the MMI. It seemed to be more of a generic interface, designed for the control to be at the Bluetooth compatible device you are using.”
“I hope this feedback was helpful.”
If I can answer any questions for you about the Bluetooth iPod Interface “Contact Me Here” and I will do my best to help you. Keep in mind I took these photographs in order to provide the best example of this technology and share what I see in the industry each day. I will continue to showcase original content in order to be your top source for Portland Oregon Audi.
The Audi Summer Concerts celebrate their twentieth season in 2009. The Jubilee program, with ‘A Feast of Music’ as its motto, guarantees musical enjoyment at the highest level; with international stars, famous orchestras, sought-after chamber-music ensembles and up-and-coming classical musical talent to be seen and heard in Ingolstadt.
After you have chosen the Certified Audi Q7 you can congratulate yourself for making a great investment and choice for your new vehicle. Knowing that the Certified program that Audi offers is the best in the industry, with rigorous eligibility requirements such as less then 60,000 miles at time of retail sale, five years or newer and a requirement that the vehicle has to have been in service for at least four months or have more than 4,000 miles. After these definitive criteria have been met the Audi must then meet all technician inspection ( Audi Certified Website & 300+ Point Inspection Checklist ) and reconditioning requirements as well as have a CARFAX report to show the vehicles structural integrity. If you are asking yourself why so much goes into looking at the past of our Certified Audis the answer is simple: in order to guarantee the future of your vehicle it must have a clean and clear past and have been fully serviced prior to you owning it. If any of the wear items such as tires or brake components are less then 60% at the time of inspection they will be replaced, period! This ensures you have a new car experience with out the new car price and an extended manufactures warranty. Simply put, Audi Certified vehicles will give you and your family piece of mind with the standard four year 50,000 mile warranty and the extended warranty of up to six years or up to 100,000 miles. You will still get all of the benefits of the factory four year 50,000 mile warranty plus you will continue to be worry-free for an additional two years after it expires with such benefits as roadside assistance, trip interruption, loaner cars & even trip routing if you are in unfamiliar territory.
How can you improve the most comprehensive Certified warranty in the industry? The answer is by putting it on the finest vehicles on the market, Audi’s! Now what makes an Audi the best? How do we stay ahead of the curve? Our advancements in performance, safety, design and versatility make our vehicles and in particular the Q7 at the forefront of the industry. If you stand back and look at the Q7, and remember, this was Audis first Sport Utility Vehicle and this it was a late arriver in the segment in 2007, you will be impressed. First, take a look at the single piece front grill that gives the Q7 such a bold look. Continue on to the three lines that define the side of the Q7 giving it a poised look even when standing still. If you look further back you will see the coupe like design of the trapezoidal “C” pillar that elegantly blends into the all aluminum tailgate. Something that makes the Q7 tailgate so unique in the SUV segment is the integrated tail lights that allow for a great loading area in the rear as well as a very clean appearance. While at the rear of the vehicle you will have an option of tow package with capabilities of towing up to 6,600 LBS (pounds), rear view camera and park-tronic sensors for those tight spaces. Now leaving standard key design features unique only to the Q7 such as intergraded roof rails, the lowest drag coefficient in its class of .34, standard Quattro (Audi pioneered all wheel drive), FSI (Fuel Straight Injection also Audi pioneered, the Q7 has even more to offer. With optional safety and convenience features available like the Audi Side Assist blind spot detection system and the only 3 piece Panorama glass roof, you will have no shortage of versatility and enjoyment with your Q7.
I suppose that leaves you with 2 questions: out of the 10 available colors and 3 engine choices 3.6L V6 with 280 HP, 4.2L V8 with 350 HP and the new 3.0L Diesel with a whopping 407 foot pounds of torque, what engine do you go with? Go to your local Audi dealer and take a drive. This will give you another opportunity to experience the industry standard of interior craftsmanship, design and materials as you sit in the driver oriented cockpit. Enjoy the 14 speaker sound system, Bose or 1,000 watt optional B&O (Bang & Olufsen) as you control your iPod, Bluetooth device and Sirius Satellite radio through the easy to function and intuitive Audi developed MMI ( Multi Media Interface ) Relax knowing it has been time well invested and remind yourself of the great decision you made with the Audi Certified Pre-Owned Q7.
We just got a 2009 3.2L Audi TT Roadster in the Prestige trim level with navigation and it is one nice car. This 3.2L TT is not ready to be sold yet it still has to go through its 300+ Point Certified Audi Warranty inspection but it still looks so nice. The TT has just about 9,000 miles on it so the engine is barely broken in and the interior still has that new car smell. Summer is here and the sun is out, it is supposed to be in the 90’s today and it is time to go Golfing! . “Do golf clubs fit in the trunk?” If you had a hard top convertible the answer would be not, however with the Audi TT Roadster your Golf Clubs will fit in the trunk. What could be better then waking up early for a round of 18 holes and going out, putting your clubs and shoes in the trunk of your convertible and still being able put the top down. We have convertibles to enjoy our particular lifestyles whether it is golfing, tennis, going out for a picnic with a bottle of wine or just driving along the ocean with the wind in your hair, sun on your face and of course the top down! Audi is a vehicle that encompasses a lifestyle without compromise, so even if you are a golfer and want a TT Roadster you don’t have to worry because “your clubs will fit in the trunk!”
Sunset Audi was represented at the 1st Annual PSC (Portland Service Center) Cruise-In, Friday, August 14th and I was in attendance to wave the Sunset Imports flag. This cruise-in was the first of its kind and was truly a great opportunity for people who love their cars to display them for everyone else to see. With a spectators choice award for first place at stake all the cars were shined up and ready for all to see. Root beer floats only a $1, music playing and true car enthusiasts on hand; what could have been better?! Take a look at what the people over at Volkswagen Credit are driving. They take such great pride in the product we represent and they really have great taste! I wanted to thank everyone over at the Volkswagen Credit department for their hard work. We will continue to keep you busy and thanks again for the invite. We will make next year even bigger!
Portland Oregon, so far away from the heart of Audi in Ingolstadt Germany , the 100th Anniversary of the company is celebrated. It’s not only our technological advancements, but also our passion for racing that ultimately put the Audi Brand on the road to victory. Almost every car Audi introduced into motorsports was successful, and if it was a factory race car before 1934, it was most likely on hand celebrating the 100th anniversary at home in Ingolstadt. What goes hand in hand with motorsport success? The heroes behind the machines and they too were there to experience this amazing day. Not only did they attend, but these men put these legendary masterpieces back where they belong: out of the showroom and onto the road.
As you all know the genuine Audi tow hitch is now available from your local Audi dealer. However I have had alot of requests for publication of the O.E.M (Original Equiptment Manufacturer) hitch installed. Genuine parts often take longer to become available due to the extensive research and development that goes into the product before it is released into the market. The build quality and craftsmanship of the Q5 trailer hitch is very nice as well as the instructions for the installation are well written. After watching a Audi Certified Technician install the Q5 trailer hitch I would not recommend attempting to install it yourself. The Q5 can tow 4,400 LBS (pounds) the highest in its class by far so this is a great Audi accessory to have. Also installation time is about four hours so make sure when you drop your Q5 off at the Service Department to give them plenty of time because this is a new procedure and the professional Audi Technicians will want to make sure the installation is 100%.
It has been sunny and dry in the Portland, Oregon area for almost 30 days straight and if you know anything about the North West you will know that that is an abnormal dry spell for us. I almost started to forget I lived in Oregon. Even though its summer and for most people that means no rain whatsoever, when you are so use to wet cool days, every now and then you start to miss it! (secretly of course!) Well today it started to rain and I was reminded that I was still home in “the Great North West!” As the rain fell in front of my window I looked at the local KATU Weather Forcast to see the traffic advisories for my clients coming in and out of our Service Department, just to give them an indication of what was happening on the roads. At this time I was reminded of two things; first, we build the safest cars on the road, and second, how lucky we are to have Quattro All-Wheel Drive . No matter if this is your first Audi or your ninth you will undoubtedly have a “Quattro Story;” that time or moment when Quattro either saved you and your family or just made your journey possible.
As I was writing this article, I received a phone call from a client I had sold an S5 to. He told me a few weeks back, and five days from his wedding day, he averted an accident with a deer and crashed his S5 with his groomsman in the car. They all survived, walked away, and he was married, on time, five days later. I don’t know if it was the timing of what I was writing about, or the looming wet weather and slick roads, but it really made me think about Audi and what the safety of this vehicle really means. He later called me to get another S5 and I wanted to know what he had liked about the S5 previously and he replied, “it was an amazing car, it saved my life.”
At the end of the day, you can’t put a price on quality or safety and Audi will never make you choose between the two. They both come standard on every model. Email me your “Quattro stories.” I would love to hear about what your Audi does for you!
As time passes I find that I get asked the same questions more than a few times a week and I love to give the answers because showing people the Audi Brand and technologies is one of my true passions. A question that has been asked of me in a number of times in emails by people all around the country is “How do I install my Audi Q5 Roof Racks ?” I really enjoy helping and working at Sunset Imports gives me an opportunity to do this every day. The Audi Q5 comes standard with adaptive cross bars that can be installed in less then ten minutes and will actually change the driving characteristics of the vehicle to counteract the top heaviness caused by the roof load. With up to 220 pounds of load capacity on the crossbars of the Q5 it really is nice to have the ability to put bikes, kayaks, surfboards, skies, snowboards or anything else you can think of on the roof. The roof rails will not interfere with the open sky system (panorama glass roof) as long as you use Audi genuine adapters for whatever it is you are carrying. Now to start with, in order to install the Q5 Cross bars you will need to find the tool; it is usually located in the back in the spare tire well. After you have laid out the cross bars and located the tool (pictured) you will need to find the cross bar end with three prongs, this is important. Take the cross bar end with three prongs and make sure it goes in front and the three prongs go over the drivers front side. After that it is simple. You will lift the caps on the end of the bars up, the installation is easier the first time with two people, lay the Q5 cross bars across the roof (carefully) and line up the prongs on the inside of the roof rails. After the alignment of the roof rails is done you can tighten them down, make sure not to tighten them too much, you only need about 3.5 pounds of force, like softly squeezing an orange. (If you overtighten the roof rails it can strip out the threads.) After you have installed your roof rails stand back and take a look at the dynamic lines of the Audi Q5 and give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done!
We have all been waiting patiently for the genuine (OEM) Audi Q5 tow hitch to become available for installation at the dealer. The Audi Q5 has 4,400 LBS (Pounds) of towing capacity from the factory and is pre-wired for the receiver to be installed. Well after the versatile and tow ready Q5 arrived at the dealership we were all very excited to get the manufactures tow hitch for our clients so we waited and waited and waited …….. months went by and as Brand Specialists we started to wonder what was going on and so did our clients. It turns out that the Q5 tow hitch receivers had been ready and they were being shipped out, however the control module that was shipped with the receiver was not to Audi specifications. Although the Q5 Tow hitches took longer to get into stock than we were anticipating, I am glad they are here and that all the hiccups have been resolved before the receivers are installed. After opening the box for the new part I was especially happy to see the workmanship and quality of the hardware. The welds on the metal of the receiver are beautiful and the wiring and grommets look very nicely executed. If you need a tow hitch for your Audi Q5 feel free to “Contact Me Here”, and I can help.
AUDI AG sold 2.1 percent more vehicles worldwide last month than in July 2008. Some 85,000 customers opted for a new Audi (2008: 83,210). From January through July, the company sold approximately 551,000 vehicles – 8.1 percent less than one year earlier (2008: 599,429). As the market’s leading Premium Brand , Audi benefited from growth in China to reach a new monthly sales record there. In the United States and Western Europe, Audi’s sales progressed better than those of its competitors.
• Record month for Audi in China
• Growth in key Asian and European markets
• Audi is the most successful premium brand in Western Europe
• Rising market share in the United States
“In recent months we’ve bolstered our brand worldwide by investing wisely; and with our sales success in July we further increased the pressure on the competition” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG. “Our financial data show that we are not only achieving impressive sales figures, but that our business is above all profitable; our encouraging development is long-lasting.” For the first six months of 2009, the Audi Group had just reported an operating profit of 823 million euros.
The greatest total increase in sales last month was reached by Audi in its second home market. Sales figures in China (including Hong Kong) grew by 42.5 percent in July over one year earlier to 13,399 vehicles (2008: 9,403); with 80,265 vehicles sold in China during the first seven months of 2009, year-on-year growth amounted to 14.8 percent (2008: 69,912). In the Asia-Pacific region as a whole, Audi sold around 102,500 premium vehicles from January through July (+12.7 percent; 2008: 90,924). In July alone, the brand registered a year-on-year increase of 37.1 percent (some 16,500 vehicles; 2008: 12,037). To this result, the brand’s rising sales figures in other key regional markets contributed. Growth in Australia, for example, amounted to 26.1 percent (943 vehicles; 2008: 748); in Japan, Audi registered a 7.5 percent increase (1,040 vehicles; 2008: 967), and in South Korea sales rose by 28.4 percent (565 vehicles; 2008: 440).
In its home country of Germany, AUDI AG exceeded its July 2008 figures by 0.3 percent with 23,404 vehicles sold (2008: 23,341). With 137,286 deliveries, sales figures were 5.8 percent lower over the first seven months than a year ago (2008: 145,745).
In Western Europe as a whole, Audi sold some 55,400 vehicles in July (2008: 56,785) – a decline of 2.4 percent. With this result, AUDI AG was able to further consolidate its position in the market. With approximately 357,150 vehicles sold in the region in the first seven months of 2009 (-10.9 percent; 2008: 400,922), Audi confirmed its status as Western Europe’s leading premium brand. Key growth markets in the region last month were Belgium, where 2,825 customers chose an Audi vehicle (+32.4 percent; 2008: 2,133), Austria, with 1,784 vehicles sold (+33.4 percent; 2008: 1,337), Switzerland, with 1,441 units (+6.3 percent; 2008: 1,355), and Sweden – where Audi sold 1,118 vehicles (+15.4 percent; 2008: 969).
Audi of America sold 6,407 vehicles in the United States, a year-on-year decrease of 5.8 percent (2008: 6,804) – thereby narrowing the gap versus 2008 to minus 14.6 percent for the first seven months (44,252 vehicles; 2008: 51,827). In a premium market still deep in recession, Audi posted the strongest growth among its German competitors and increased its U.S. market share by 1.4 percentage points in July to 7.6 percent. July sales were encouraging elsewhere in North America as well. Figures rose in Mexico by 13.5 percent (564 vehicles); in Canada, the brand registered year-on-year growth of 40.3 percent in July by selling 822 vehicles (2008: 586).

I am pretty confident that when a car company releases a Coupe they are guaranteed to get some recognition and publicity. Audi had not had a true Coupe available on the market for the past ten years until they brought out the A5 & S5 platform and that vehicle was an instant success. Leave it to Audi; when they have a car that gets notoriety to try and improve a great thing. The A5 was released with the 3.2L V6 and the S5 was released with the 4.2L V8, now for the 2010 model only a year later, they are changing the drivetrains. The Audi A5 & S5 will both be available in Cabriolets (soft top convertibles), the A5 will be available with 4 cylinder 2.0T and the S5 will be getting a 3.0T supercharged V6. Now this is why I love Audi, no matter how great they build a new model and no matter how much people love it they will continue to improve with design, safety, performance and technologies. In regards to the phrase, “if you build, it they will come,” I truly believe when an auto maker designs and builds a coupe people will take notice, even if it is poorly executed. However, Audi has nailed it yet again. This year is Audi’s 100th Birthday and like a fine wine they truly are getting better with age. I can’t wait to see what they do in the next ten years. With the introduction of diesel and all of the new models coming out it, really is an exciting time for Audi!
The Boesendorfer Piano company has been hand building some of the worlds finest pianos since 1828, Audi has been sculpting the automotive world since the 1900’s. Imagine if these two pioneers in there unique industries combined the finest crafts people that could be offered, the result would simply magnificent. Today Audi & Boesendorfer have created a masterpiece an Audi design piano that not only looks but sounds amazing, it is a piece of art as well as a functional instrument (just like all things Audi!) I wanted to share this because I really think this is what Audi as a brand represents and I also think that it show true ingenuity within the company as a whole.
I want to start by saying thank you to everyone who has helped me with my product knowledge and put up with my enthusiasm for the brand and product line up for all these years. I have been part of the Porsche, Audi, Volkswagon family since I got my drivers license at the age of 16 and since then I have been hooked on cars, specifically Audi. After getting my degree in Automotive Science it was in my blood and there was no turning back, I had become a “Car Guy.” My family had to endure all my late nights in the garage wrenching on cars and my wife knew first thing Saturday morning I would be late for breakfast because I was washing my car from the night before and getting it ready for the weekend. Now some years later it seems my love for all things automotive have started to pay off. I have always been a great believer in doing what you love and the success would come with time, and as it turns out that is true. After competing in Seattle for the Regional level of the Audi “Q Factor” walk around competition, I am now advancing to the regional finals in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada on August 18th 2009. My fellow Brand Specialists at have been very helpful with getting me prepared, so thanks Guys! I will keep you updated on the outcome and let you know how things go.
The Horch Museum , Located in the town of Zwickau in Western Saxony, the town where August Horch pioneered his craft and created the Audi Brand. Previously an Audi plant and were Horch automobiles later became Audi. The Horch Museum was completely redesigned in 2004 and now you can experience the history of one of the greatest automotive stories ever told. I personally have never been to the Horch museum but would love to go and if ever given the opportunity you should put this on the top of your places to visit.
Success, like responsibility is something that is not just given to you, you must earn it. Recently Sunset Imports of Portland Oregon was distinguished with the Audi Magna Society Award this is the pinnacle of Audi recognition. “Audi established the Magna Society to recognize U.S. dealerships that stand out as the best of the best. To qualify, dealerships can’t just meet or exceed sales targets. They must also demonstrate they are maintaining a solid financial foundation, merit high customer satisfaction scores and show their facilities and staffs represent the progressive Audi culture.” Only 35 Audi dealers nation wide were distinguished with the Magna Society Award, Congratulations Sunset Imports! I am proud to be part of the team and let’s do it again for 2009.
About a year ago we had the Certified Pre-Owned Walk Around competition put on by Audi to test the knowledge of the Audi Brand Specialists (Audi Sales Team + Portland Audi). This Ceftified Walk Around focused on the Audi backed 6 year, 100,000 mile extended warranty offerd by Audi to ensure the Pre-Owned car you were getting would offer the same experience as getting a new Audi. I have always felt confident when describing the Audi 4 year 50k mile bumper to bumper warranty with the extended 2 years and additional 50K miles of warranty provided by Certification, but after studying for this competition I really started to understand the benefit of this coverage. To get a better grasp of the Audi Certified Warranty feel free to read my article from last year. I recommend also you visist the Audi website and go over the 300 + Point Inspection Checklist that every Audi getting Certified has to go through in order to even be considered , as well as a clear Carfax and up to date service history. Now a year later we have just finished the first level of the 2009 “Audi Q Factor” Walk Around, and this year it also included the all new Audi Q5. For the regional portion I will be representing the 2007 Certified Audi Q7 and all of the benefits of the vehicle in regards to its unique features, design, safety, versatility and performance. Like last year I have found so many amazing features on the Q7 both with the capabilities of the vehicle but also in the overall vehicle appearance and stance. Now I can’t give everything away until later but I would like to remind everyone how commited Audi is not only to having the best vehicle in the industry but ensuring that its Brand Specialists are ready for the task of representing them. Thanks again and wish me luck!
The first of the Audi Q5’s have just arrived and we were lucky enough to get one Q5 with the S-Line Package. The 2010 Audi Q5 will be cosmetically the same as the 2009 model and will have all the same features available 3G MMI, Bluetothooth capabilities, iPod integration and Panorama glass roof will all be optional. The only real difference with the 2010 Q5 is the packaging of these options, the options stay the same such as the Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige, however you will now be able to get the B&O (Bang & Olufsen) as a stand alone option in the Premium Plus model. Pictured below is the S-Line Q5 with the new style 20 inch sport wheel for 2010, Audi always does a great job with its wheel styles. Aluminum trim on the interior and the honey comb grill that surrounds the fog lights are some of the aesthetic differences that set the S-Line Q5 apart from the standard Q5. Enjoy the pictures and for more information or if you are intrested in a new Q5 or any other Audi model feel free to “Contact Me Here” and I will get back to you.
Today we had a short term lease dropped off and it reminded me what great taste our Clients have in the Portland area. I like to go out and see all of the cars either traded in or dropped back off after a lease, it always makes me appreciate the quality and longevity of the Audi product. Like always the Q7 with the S-Line Package and running boards looks nice but when I peeked in the window and saw the full leather wrapped dash and B&O (Bang & Olufsen) I had to share. It is not uncommon to see a nicely equipped Q7 with the leather package, B&O or the suede headliner but to see them all together was a real nice combination. Enjoy the pictures and as always thanks to everyone for reading and keeping the Audi Brand so strong.
Now that the 24 Hours of Le Mans has been finished for just over a month I wanted to recap what a great race it was. As an Audi enthusiast it would have been nice to see the Audi Manufacturer come home with another win but this loss will just push us to greater advancements for years to come. When I saw these pictures on Speedhunters website after Sebring I knew it woud be a great 2009 24 hours of Le Mans, and I was right. If you missed it, I suggest you see it and if you just want a refresher here is a short recap on the 2009 24 Hours or Le Mans.
After seeing the Invision SL Series rear seat entertainment system installed on a 2009 Audi Q7 I was very impressed. The headrests matched the interior nicely and the fit of the screen was nice and clean the workmanship was well executed. After turning the screens on I was also impressed with the clarity of the system, below I have added the features of the Invision SL Series rear entertainment system.

The Nürburgring simply known as “The Ring” by enthusiasts, is a motorsport race track in Nürburg, Germany. It was built in the 1920s around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel, which is about 70 kilometres (43 mi) south of Cologne, and 120 kilometres (75 mi) northwest of Frankfurt. Nicknamed The Green Hell by Jackie Stewart, it is widely considered the toughest, most dangerous and most demanding purpose-built race track in the world. I apologize this exert was taken directly from Wikipedia however I couldn’t have said it better my self.
In Portland Oregon, or really any part of the Great Northwest, we really do appreciate the sun we get because for many months of the year it is overcast and rainy. The Q5 has a great feature Panoram Glass Roof the glass roof lets in all the sun and light giving the cabin of the Q5 or Q7 a very open and fresh feeling. However, since I sell cars all across the United States and get requests for just about everything, I understand in the hottest of climates the glass roof may let in too much heat. The standard sunshade will keep the cabin cool however some people really don’t want the Panorama Roof on the Q5. As an option when ordering your Q5 you can request the Panorama Glass roof be deleted and I have included some pictures of what this will look like. As I had mentioned before 99% of the Q5’s we get in this area will have the Panorama Roof however, this is one that did not.
Imagine the perfect road trip … What do you see? Where are you going? And most importantly, what are you driving? I was sitting in my office today looking through the glass and picturing the perfect road trip trying to decide where I would go and what car I would drive. First, I knew the trip would be long and I would have to be prepared for all kinds of driving conditions: hot weather, windy mountain roads and of course, high speeds. Second I would need a co-pilot. My wife and our dog Guinness would have to be part of this great trip, and of course, for the tough part, what vehicle would be up to the task? The Audi TT would be too small for the long distance we would be traveling; the Q7 couldn’t keep up in the twists and turns; the R8 would be a bit flashy and though the A4 would be very equipped, this was a once in a life time trip… I had it! The Audi S8. Nothing compares to this machine. A 450 HP touring sedan with standard Quattro and a 0-60 in the low 5’s, how could I not have seen it sooner?! An all aluminum body based of that of the standard A8 to shed weight, and a 5.2L power plant derived from the Lamborghini Galardo, would be more then enough power. Startled by the ring of the telephone I was brought back from my afternoon daydream of the hot summer days, long roadtrips and a beautiful Audi. Right in front of my eyes sat the very car I had been imagining: a Daytona Gray pearl effect S8 with a black leather interior and carbon accents. With the elegance of the Alcantara headliner, heated rear seats and 20 inch wheels wrapped in a performance tire this monumental roadtrip could actually become a reality! As my Manager walked by he said, “you look deep in thought.”I replied, “just thinking about our next road trip” He laughed and reminded me I didn’t have any vacation left this year and the road trip would have to wait…
Now although I dont have any vacation time left and all I can do is dream, you can make this crosscountry tour a reality, come see me or “Contact Me Here” for more information on the Audi S8.
I was showing a new Audi A3 Quattro and my client asked me what I thought of the A4 Avant compared to the A3 Quattro. I stopped and thought about the question for a second and asked, “what will you be using the Audi for?” The response was simply: “a daily driver.” Knowing the A3 and A4 drive very different I sent the customer out on a test drive in the area so he could drive both cars. When the client got back I asked him which Audi he preferred and he proclaimed his love for the A3 Quattro and its quick shifting S-Tronic transmission. So I figure the decision is made, and in the same breath he says: “if only it was a little bigger for those times when I need extra room for luggage…” Well, since I figure I should move along with the story, I pointed out the option of the base carrier bars available for the A3 and the optional attachments for just about any application. Knowing he liked the A3, and it would suit his city driving purposes better then that of the A4 Avant he chose the A3 with the optional roof rack. To make a long story short, I think it is very important to explore your options when getting a vehicle and the fine balance between versatility and fun and how both can be achieved with simple solutions.
First available on the Audi Q5 the 3G MMI system has a 40GB hard drive. Approximately 20GB of that hard drive is used to store navigation data and improved categorization and points of interest; 5GB-7GB is used for miscellaneous functions such as storing contacts from Bluetooth. Now that leaves us with about 12GB-15GB of this remaining extra storage on the hard drive of the 3G MMI equipt Audis that you can actually store your personal music on. How many times have you wanted to hear a song that was on your iPod or on your memory stick sitting on your desk at home or in your other car? Audi has come up with a way to transfer music files from your portible music device, MP3, CD, memory stick (flash drive) or SD card onto the hard drive of your Audi. Initially we were informed that you could import music from your iPod or any CD, however, from personal experience and further research I have found out that while it is not quite this simple it is still a fairly easy process. Because Apple has their music secured you cannot take the music directly off your iPod, and for the same reason you can not take music directly from an original store bought CD. You can take music from a “burned” CD but be aware that the 3G MMI Jukebox is somewhat particular about what brand of CD you use, as well, the format must be MP3. Now when it comes to an iPod or similar device, you have to tranfer the music onto an SD card first and import it or you can use a memory stick, however if this is the case you will need a special designated Audi cable to transfer the music (Cable part #4F0 051 510 G). The jukebox system works very well and is very convenient. If I were to make a suggestion it would be to put the music you plan to import onto an SD or flashcard because the import is much quicker then from a burned MP3 CD. The process to import the music is very simple but make sure on the 3G MMI that you are using a card 4GB or less. If you find you are having troubles the most likley problem is simply the format in which you are trying to transfer
My last post was on the Audi Q7 seating configuration and I realized I had been neglecting the Q7 since the arrival of the new Audi Q5. For my purposes the Q7 is just a little too big and the Q5 really works for what I would use it for, however, if you have a family or just need the extra space, the Q7 is the perfect Sport Utility Vehicle. Now in the world of SUV’s it is generally difficult to tell one from another, that is not the case with the Audi Q7 though, it truly has a beautiful and functional design. Keep in mind the Q7 has the highest saftey rating on the market as well as standard Quattro (four wheel drive) and a 7 seat configuration. Now the Off Road Package is that little extra flare that you might want to set yourself apart from the rest, as it is an appearance package only. This Off Road package changes the appearance of the lower front and rear bumper as well as the exhaust tips and the side skirts. The Off Road Package can be ordered from the factory on a new Q7 and if you already have the Q7 and want the Off Road Package you can order from an Audi parts department and have it installed.

The Audi Q7 is available with just about any option you could imagine, depending on what engine you decide to go with. One option that is only available if you get the larger 4.2L V8 is the luxury six-seat configuration (2nd row bucket seats with fixed center console.) Now this option is not for everyone because you do loose the center seat in the second row, however you gain a little elegance. I grew up with three siblings, an older sister and brother and a younger brother and if we would have had these seats when I was younger I think we would have gotten into a lot less scuffels. If you do deside to go with the standard seating, you can still drop the center down on the second row for easy access.
When you sit back and think about what it takes to actually make a car, it is easy to forget the environmental impact the production takes on our planet. We see merely a car, and though we are vastly impressed by that car, perhaps more impressive is the way in which those cars are produced. In Audi’s case, by using very environmentally conscious practices and very minimal water and energy.
This video is the first of a series of snap shots into the way forward-thinking companies are making the most of our resources. And if you are in any way concerned about our environment, it may be just one more reason to choose an Audi.
Have you heard Ferrari might be pulling out of F1??? This is a great commercial put out by Audi for the new V10 R8. Looks like its perfect timing for the Le Mans this weekend… Enjoy! And be sure to catch the Le Mans at least on Speed Network if you can’t make it in person!
I think it is very important when changing anything on your car from OEM (Original Equiptment from the Manufacturer) to something else, you have to get quality parts. Saving money when modifying your car is nice but it is important to remember the age old saying, “you get what you pay for.” This is not always true, but at least make sure the manufacturer of the part stands behind the product and your safety, and that of others on the road is not compromised. The Audi RS4 sold in the United States and Canada comes with a sport steering wheel like that of many Audis, however, the European RS4 steering wheel is a little different. I really like the look of most European specification parts mostly because they are so unique in the United States and still maintain functionality, plus, you don’t comprimise saftey or quality. Because this is a genuine European part an Authorized Audi dealer can not sell it, but if it is a part you have go to Oem Plus and they can get it for you. Keep in mind you might gain eye appeal but you will loose the volume controls & the ability to change channels on your radio from the wheel, and you may not be able to code it after it has been installed.
Today I was looking at the 2009 A3 and thought to myself how nice the combination of 2.0T and the Quatto All Wheel Drive is. Last year the 2.0T was not available with the Quattro drivetrain in North America and you could only get the Quattro A3 with the 3.2L V6 and I thought, at the time, it was perfect. Now that Audi is discontinuing the 3.2L V6 engine in the A3, A4, A5 and so on, I began to wonder, what is the greatest engine? What is the perfect combination of engine and drivetrain? At one time the Audi S4 was a BI Turbo V6 and then Audi went to a 4.2L V8, both extremly fun cars, and now for 2010 we will be getting the 3.0L Supercharged V6, so what is best? I don’t have the answers, only opinions that seem to lead me to more questions. What I do know though, is that I like what I see in the Audi Brand. I like change, advancement and progression of efficency, power and control. However, the only thing for certain is that change is inevitable and if you are into Audi’s, it is best not to fall in love with any one engine drivetrain combination because you will most likley end up missing out on new advancements down the road. I have always said, “It is not the thing that changes that determines if we like it or need it, it is us.” What I mean by that is that if you have an open mind to change, simply ask yourself this question about the thing you are uncertian about: “does it work?” and more importantly “does it work for me?” I appoligize for going so deep on a subject that is seemingly so simple and that has such a huge amount of personal preference to it, but people ask me, “why does Audi ……..?” and the question they should be asking is “does this change work for me?”
Driving an Audi is only part of the Audi experience; the lifestyle behind the Audi brand is something unique for each individual. As you can see from this video Audi drivers are enthusiastic about there cars and what Audi represents to them.
Well as always after Audi introduces a new vehicle they will inevitably introduce the S-Line Model. The S-Line model is the Sport model and the Q5 was no exception. Audi nailed the look of the new S-Line Q5 with the 20 inch wheels wrapped in a sport tire; just keep in mind it will not handle quite as well in the wet. Here in the North West we do get snow and rain, almost more commonly than sun so a second set of tires would be nice if you plan on driving up to the mountain. Now in most cases I would choose the S-Line over the standard model Audi, like the A4 and the Audi A5 however, with the Q5 and its diverse capabilities the standard model works great. Some of the touches I do like on the S-Line Q5 are the paddle shifters on the steering wheel and the contemporary look of the brushed aluminum over the wood trim. As you all have probably noticed I love Audi and no matter what model you throw my way I will inevitably enjoy the change and the progress and growth of the Audi Brand.
