Setting Up Bluetooth – iPhone with Audi
Jan 8
Apple products and Audi’s are very compatible. It is said “if Apple made a car it would be an Audi,” the iPhone is no exception. The Audi interface on the MMI (Multi Media Interface) with the iPhone is seamless. Keep in mind your Audi has to be bluetooth equipped for this to work, also pairing can only be done when the vehicle ignition has been on for less then 5 minutes.

First press the telephone button to make sure your iPhone has not already been paired with this vehicle. If the phone is not paired the message below will come up on the screen in your Audi.

Go to the starting page of your iPhone and you will see an icon that looks like gears labeled “settings” go into this aplication.

This is a detailed up close image of the “settings” icon.

Now that you are in “settings” go into the the toolbar labeled “general”.

This is a close up image of the “general” toolbar.

You will then go into a screen that has a Bluetooth toolbar, make sure that Bluetooth is ON.

Close up image of Bluetooth ON.

After selecting the Bluetooth “on,” you will see the Audi pairing with the iPhone device, it will only take a few moments for the Audi to find the iPhone device.

Now that the Audi has located the iPhone you will be asked to enter your PIN#, the default PIN# is 1234. After entering the generic PIN# the Audi and the iPhone will pair, this will only take a few moments.

It will briefly read “paired”

You will now see a new screen come up that is your dialing system for your hands free device. Below this you will notice a small Bluetooth icon.

You can enter most of your iPhone functions in regards to the phone, such the memory of calls both out going and those you have recieved.

Feel free to input a phone number to try the new system out.

And as an added bonus while your iPhone is docked in the iPod adapter in the glove box it will keep your iPhone charged for you.

I just got a 2006 A6 Avant. Even though the iphone shows the device is paired, it does not always come up in the MMI screen, it still shows the initial message “your phone might not be coonected properly”. This is hit or miss. I would say that everytime I get in the car I have to go thru the motions of attempting to pair the iphone (even though the device was paired and working last time I was in it). Any ideas? BTW I do have a couple thousand contacts in my iphone do you think this is part of the problem?
Thanks so much for such an informative instruction

Javier,
Yes having that many contacts may be part of the problem but more likley you need a TSB (Technical Service Bullitian) on your new A6. Call your Audi dealer and set up an appointment to have it resolved.

On my 2006 A6 I have bluetooth function but the clarity of my calls is only acceptable at slow speeds. When I get on the freeway there is so much background noise that the person on the other end can not hear me speak. Any recommendations? Where are the microphones and is there anything I can do to clear up the reception?
From David on March 2nd, 2009
David,
Try turning the volume of your phone down this has been known to help. If not there may be a software update (none that I know of) however if you play with the settings in your phone you should be able to fix this.

I’ve got a question about this. I am looking at getting an Audi and have an iphone. Is the Audi MMI capable of pulling m address book from the phone so it will be available using the MMI? Will caller ID work? I have paired the phone in my current car but none of the above works, so I have to look up or manually dial all my calls and get “unknown caller” when someone is calling me. Hoping going a bit luxury will fix this. thanks

Justin,
Yes, iPhones and the Audi MMI system are very compatable, it will pull your contacts, upload your phonebook and you can retrieve missed calls aswell as outbound call history. Your iPhone will charge at the same time.

Scott,
Just bought an A4 from John. I have an Ipod Nano connected in my glove box and it seems to stop connecting when my bluetooth enabled iphone goes off. I’m assuming that the bluetooth interferes with the Nano since the iphone was installed before the Nano.
Any thoughts?

Hi there,
I have been successful in pairing my Iphone with my new A4. However, when I dial a number from the directory, it dials the first name in the directory, even though I’ve chosen a different name and the correct name and number originally showed up on the MMI screen. The only way around this is to dial directly from my Iphone directory.
Is this a common problem, and is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks!

Dana,
I have not heard this concern before. I would bring the car into the dealer that sold you the car and have them check the system.

Just wondering, when connected to the Audi (S5 Sportback) via Bluetooth with the iPhone 3Gs,
Does it sync all your contact numbers also? missed and received calls etc…?
kind regards

My iphone is paired to my S4 when I start the car then it disconnects itself (blue tooth to phone) a message on my phone says handsfree disconnected and the car display says your phone may not be connected. I have to keep pairing and it keeps disconnecting during my trip. Why is that?

Hi there, I just picked up my 2010 A4 and imported my contacts from my Iphone onto the harddrive of the car. The problem is that the iphone keeps the contacts on the phone and the contacts in my Outlook as seperate groups even though they are identical. MMI picks up all contacts which means I have duplicates of all contacts. Any suggestions??

We have an A4 and while driving and listening to music if my iphone rings it is INCREDIBLY loud! I have the ringer on the iphone turned down and the music is at a normal volume. Is there a way to adjust the bluetooth volume?
From Heather on May 18th, 2010
Heather,
The next time the phone rings turn the volume down with the steering wheel control and the next time the phone rings it should be at the new level.

I have a 2007 b7 Audi RS4. My previous phone worksed just as you have shown. it finds the audi bluetooth on the phone and after inserting the code its great. However, I just purchased an iphone4. This phone does not find the Audi Bluetooth. It simple constantly is searching for devices and never finds one. I always try immediately after starting the car and reset my bluetooth on the car as well. I am simply stumped and do not know what to do.

I have also just purchased an iphone4. My previous nokia n97 paired ok but now after entering the pin it says ‘phone not paired’ the car is an RS4 2006 model.
From Fairzee on July 25th, 2010
Ok, all sorted now. You can access the pin to pair via the settings on the mmi. My pin had been changed from the default one. I changed it back and the phone paired straight away! All my contacts were ther too
