The St. Johns Bridge is Portlands tallest bridge with 400 foot tall towers and 205 feet of clearance for ships to pass beneath. The construction of the bridge began a month before the Stock Market Crash of 1929 but fortunately provided many local residents with jobs during the Great Depression of that time. Amazingly the 2,067 ft gothic inspired St Johns bridge was completed only 21 months later. The Bridge that spans over Cathedral Park has come a long way from the 1,000 ferry passengers a day to an estimated average of 23,800 in 2001. So if you are ever in the Portland area or if you just want to enjoy your Audi and go for a drive, make sure to cross the St. Johns Bridge, the view is beautiful.
